A busy evening at Leopardstown as we send out five runners.

PERCY battles hard to shed his maiden tag under Colin Keane at Killarney 17th August 2016

Picture: Percy getting up to win his maiden in the very scenic Killarney last summer.

Usual Thursday night fare up at Leopardstown during the summer months and I've declared six to run on a classy card where there are some exciting young horse on show. I find our game is sometimes taken for granted a bit and people think it's the norm to see a nice two year old or two but some cards are real nice pointers to the following season and tonight's card could be just one of those nights. We have two GR3 juvenile races and both should be very informative and I'm happy to be involved in both.

However we start off at a lowly level albeit a 60k claiming race for two year olds. I'm not sure that Ireland is ready for expensive claimers like this just yet but I do think once we all get used to them that they could and should work. I've declared two Anamoine babies in this off the minimum allotted claim which is €20k. I should have put them in a couple of pounds higher to allow both my stable jockeys to do their Minimum weights but that would have put the fillies at a very unattractive price to anyone thinking of claiming one. Colin rides the one with experience BRIANS BRIDE who is a full sister to Boyfriend Brian who was a smart horse last year. She is a very light filly with enough ability to win one of these but lacks scope, otherwise she is a very straightforward horse with no vices and could be a nice attractive purchase as she is ready to race in as all the hard work is done.(Colin's minimum weight is 8-09 so he may do a pound over tonight)

PALARIVA is a non runner as she had a temperature this morning.

China Horse Club sent me OVERCOMING this year and he's a lovely Colt by Kodiac. We like this lad and he's ready to start as we've done as much as we can with him at home but I'm still a bit worried that he's a bit weak. I would love if he was 20/30kgs heavier but I e thing I've learnt is that I can't change the shape of them. How he runs will determine whether we can kick on with him or back off him for now but either way the experience should be beneficial.

The Silver Flash GR3 is the first of the two big races and I've declared SHALAILAH in this in the hope of achieving some Blacktype with her. As only six go to post it's a good opportunity as she can always go back and win her maiden again. She ran second to the fav the last day and there's no obvious reason why she should reverse that result today but I'm glad that she can take her chance for some valuable Blacktype , nothing ventured nothing gained!

The second of the Gr3's is for colts and again only six go to post and one of my better colts is WOULD BE KING. His form is rock solid and while it's a tough race I thought it worth a go at breaking his maiden here. Aidan's colt was very impressive the last day and with his usual improvement he should be hard to beat but our form to date is rock solid and we should keep him honest! He received a rating of 97 this week which is acceptable but he'd need to run to a higher mark to win this I believe. Again, nothing ventured nothing gained and fortune can favour the brave!

The winners race cut up yet again and only three were originally declared but then they reopened the race and a fourth horse joined the field. I run PERCY here and it could be an ideal opportunity to get him back to winning ways. Ideally he would like a bit more juice in the going and the further the better for him but I just couldn't let this race pass with such a small field. We've held our own in these winners races this year and hopefully PERCY can continue our good form in this tonight. All four runners are very closely rated so while it's a small field it's doesn't lack quality and should be a good horse race. Any rain that falls will only help his chances.
