Morning Lot

Back down to Killarney for this evenings fixture which is a mixed eight race card that kicks off a bit later than yesterday at 4.25pm. The ground rode on the easy side of good yesterday which will suit my two that have been declared for today. I normally try and make it down here for an overnight but with yesterday’s early start it didn’t suit and I’m missing out this year unfortunately. It’s always a lovely break in routine. One of Ireland’s most beautiful towns to visit, hopefully I will get down again soon.

DUMOURIEZ has five others including two previous winners to contend with in the opening Auction winners race over the mile. He’s a lovely colt that quite obviously took every yard of the 7f at the Curragh the last day before reaching top gear and just failed by the narrowest of margins. That was just over two weeks ago and I’ve not done that much with him since just allowing him to freshen up. He gets a 4lbs allowance of both winners which was attractive and made our decision to run in this in the end.

SHEMARA was given a mark of 69 after her third start the last day at Ballinrobe when she ran a decent second without ever threatening the winner on the day. We always thought that she was up to winning her little maiden but needs a soft surface to be at her best. Once she was given her mark I took the view that it was worth going down the handicap route and I would be very disappointed if she can’t capitalise off it. She’s not blessed with speed so she should handle today’s trip and as long as the ground doesn’t dry up too much she should be competitive from today on. We’ve been very patient with her and a few others here due to the dry summer and it would be nice if they started to pay us back from now on in.
