3 Runners at Naas tonight

Back to Naas this evening with three runners. At the risk of repeating myself this is one of my favourite tracks as it was my local one growing up. We seem to be lucky here also and that does help to like the place!

Reckless Endeavour seems to be creeping in under the radar tonight as there seems to be some well bred sorts in opposition. I read where the 'experts' say he didn't progress from his first run. Well I couldn't disagree more! Take the winner out and he won his maiden easily last time and believe me when I say this.... the winner is a stakes horse. I was seriously impressed with the winner but I think some confuse certain tracks with levels of ability and that day has gone. You don't find 'easy' races anymore over here at maiden level.

Dandyleekie hasn't progressed since winning first time out last season. While he's a very good looking sort, I don't think he's the most genuine and I run today as there was only three being declared. It was obvious the race wouldn't fill once trainers seen the favourite entered and trainers don't like running against high rated sorts as the handicapper can destroy you if you get close to them in messy races.
For these races to survive (and we need plenty more of them) the authorities have to reassess how they evaluate the runners, otherwise trainers can't afford to run.
Tonight's race should be a formality for the favourite but I've put blinkers on my lad and I need to see some spark from him to justify training him on and maybe see what his best trip could be. My other problem is that he's my daughters favourite horse in the yard so i have to be careful what I say about him!

Ningxai is a lovely honest sort that tries hard for you and that's all you can ask. He won his maiden in Cork and we felt that he didn't want it too firm and that's the reason we've waited with him. Any rain that has fallen will help him but he's in great nick and should run well, whether he's good enough to win his first handicap tonight we will find out together. I think the 8f would be his minimum trip and I can see him trying further soon enough.

Let's spare a thought for wee Merryn who starts round 2 of her treatment in England today. The bravest wee lass...
