Heliac runs over 1m2f in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies H'Cap at Roscommon this evening.

We head West tonight for an eight race card at Roscommon and I’ve declared four to run. Amazingly we declared on Good to Yielding after they called it heavy as recently as Friday. So it’s obviously drying out quickly and after last weeks rain I’d imagine it will be a lovely racing surface. For that reason I declared four as on heavy I probably would have gone with just two.

A claimer kicks off the action and WARTIME HERO sadly has found himself in this company due to poor recent runs. Ultimately he has worked out as a disappointment considering we thought him a potential stakes horse last year at two. He probably needs it very soft to be at his best but even on a bad day he should be competitive at this level. He’s now simply not good enough for connections and we are prepared to cull now, hence in this at an attractive price (15k).

LANCASTRIA found himself in a falsely run Killarney race the last day and even though very green, he was man enough to grab the race and was just caught on the line by a much superior opponent. We should have improved a good bit for that experience and he drops back a furlong to 10f. Being by Cape Cross he should continue to progress throughout the summer as he is physically still a work in progress.

I originally entered HELIAC tonight to see what rating she would get and had no real intention of running her on soft or heavy ground. Once I saw that the ground was drying up I had a rethink and declared her. This, I think is a nice next step for her and hopefully the ground stays dry.

SCORCHED EARTH is a well related colt but I’m running out of patience with him and unless he ups his game tonight we will geld him immediately. This is his first step up in trip to 10f and while I would rather it softer for him, there can be no excuses anymore after tonight. He seems well at home, while he’s not the most showy of workers at home he does seem better than normal.
