Five runners at Down Royal today.

PERCY battles hard to shed his maiden tag under Colin Keane at Killarney 17th August 2016

It's been a busy unfruitful week and I'm hoping to end it on a high note today at one of my favourite meetings of the year. Basically my horses that went to Ascot just weren't good enough and we hit the crossbar at home with a few but that's racing and there's always another day in this game.
I run five up north today but in only three races and the main attraction is the valuable Ulster Derby which we've won in the past when it was for older horses. It became a race for 3yrs only only recently and it's a race that I'd very much like to win again.

PERCY is my first choice in the big one today after the step up in trip the last day brought him back to form. He's a grand little horse and seems to have turned a corner in the last few weeks and he will love the trip and the fast going. His English owners let me bypass Ascot for a go at this and I'm hoping I can repay them with a big run.

WORLD WAR is running as his entry fee was paid and I'm hoping that we can geld him next week in the hope that we can knock some weight off him and in turn get him to win a race or two. I'm trying a tongue tie on him as he is very stuffy and it can only help him and it's better than doing nothing! At the minute he seems to be a bit trip -less which isn't helping matters either.

I'm running SWEET SOUNDS in the classically named Ulster Oaks which would be a nice handicap to win. She wouldn't want firm in the description and if we draw a line through her last run which was a messy race, then she should have a solid each way shout. I'm still hopeful a getting some Blacktype with her at some stage but we need to get some form back into her soon to justify that thought!

I've again declared two in the last race of the day which is a trappy little maiden to end proceedings. MYSTIC TRAVELLER is the best of my two and as long as it's not too firm he should put it up to any of the rest here. He's a fine lump of a horse that will love the trip and is gradually maturing into a sort that should be capable of winning his maiden,
Hopefully it's today!

SPIRAL GALAXY needs a third run to qualify for handicaps and I'm sure that's where his future lies. I would be surprised if he could beat my other horse but I've been wrong in the past, in fact I've been wrong all bloody week! Here's to a new week , a new dawn, a new day!
