We head west tonight for another Monday evenings racing at Roscommon. I’ve only declared two to run as dangerously I’ve assumed the track could be very quick and I’m just getting nervous introducing some with it being firm. The tracks are doing some great work but though no ones fault the ground is drying by the minute and we just have to be patient with some of the horses.

HYPNOTIC FORCE is by Lethal Force who’s progeny, in general, appreciate some juice in the ground but this lady is waiting for her third run and this race wasn’t filling so I gambled on declaring. She is stepping up in trip to 10f which I think she will need in time but definitely is not a guarantee tonight. Hopefully if this is a weak race she can be competitive as I think she can break her maiden at this level.

The big race in tonight’s card is the Lenebane Stakes, a Listed race over 12f (just short of) and only six were declared and I thought this a perfect race to run MUSTAJEER back in. He is a lovely big horse that was harshly treated for finishing fourth on his debut this year and he basically didn’t handle proceedings at the Curragh the last day. He will wear ear plugs and a hood tonight in the hope that he stays relaxed as if he can’t relax he will win nothing. On ratings he is well ahead in tonight’s race but for me his rating is a false one until he wins at this level. Firm ground is not ideal and he would need every yard of this trip on fast ground while he can run shorter on a heavy surface. A nice type to have in the string but as always with some of these horses we inherit, not straightforward. His last race is working out well so hopefully we can get his head in front tonight and then plan ahead again.
