Dundalk it is then...

The horrible weather we've been having of late has slowed down an already steady start to the Irish flat season. I do wonder why the Irish program starts off in tracks that are notoriously prone to the weather. Cork, Tipperary struggle when it rains during the summer never mind at this time of the year so it was no surprise that they both were lost this week.

I've declared five to run tonight and hopefully my eagerness to get my string started doesn't come back and bite me but if I don't run here I can't run anywhere until the ground dries up. KING ELECTRIC came out of last weeks race fine and this seems to be a nice opportunity for him so hopefully he can avail of it but remember 5f is definitely on the sharp side for him in my opinion but fine for this time of year.ROOM TO ROAM is a similar Colt by Fast Company and this is a nice race to introduce him. These auction races are grand for these types as we can avoid most of Aidan's blue bloods in open maidens. That doesn't necessarily make it easier to win these races as nowadays most trainers have their charges well ready.

STRADA DI CARSOLI gave Colin a torrid time last time out at the Curragh. He ran free on horrible ground and hopefully that was just freshness but he needs to improve tonight or I imagine he could be gelded very shortly! As with all of mine I just hope he handles the surface and returns sound.

I run two in the 10f maiden and obviously KUBALI is the pick of the two as Colin rides him. He's a handsome son of Approve that works to an OK level and I've no doubt there's a day or two in him. He gives me the impression that he needs a trip and as he's ready to start I'd rather he started here than on a heavy surface at a turf track. He's a real good mover and is light on his feet so hopefully he will be ok here.

BOBBY BOUCHER is a grand little son of Big Bad Bob and we use him here to lead the two year olds as he's got a lovely temperament and serves a purpose. Unless he transforms on the racetrack I imagine he will be a little handicapper but is ideal to teach young Evan the intricacies of race riding. As he's a light framed gelding , claiming the 10lbs off him with Evan will be more beneficial than not and with a lad like Evan, the 10lbs will come in handy this summer. The kids can use their 10lbs claim until they've ridden three winners and then they are down to claiming 7lbs. My aim is to give Evan as much experience as possible while he has the 10 and hopefully I can use him to win a nice race or two this summer!
